Juneau Earns Gold STEP Award for Safety:
-
The Associated Builders & Contractors of Georgia recently announced its 2008 safety
award recipients that included Juneau Construction Company’s 2008 Gold STEP Award.
The association’s National STEP and Georgia Chapter safety awards are presented
annually to those Georgia contractors that have achieved the lowest rate of on-the
job accidents in the state and who have demonstrated their commitment to safety.
Winners of the Georgia Safety Awards of Excellence are determined by calculating
a company’s total incident rate and the amount of time lost due to job-related injuries.
Companies with rates lower than the national average qualify for the Georgia safety
awards.
Atlanta Urban Design Commission Award of Excellence 2008:
-
The 127-room Ellis Hotel in downtown Atlanta has received the 2008 Atlanta Downtown
Design Excellence Award in the Hotel category. The award, presented by Central Atlanta
Progress, an urban improvement organization, recognized Ellis Hotel as a newly created
Downtown Atlanta space that demonstrates excellence in design. The Ellis completed
a comprehensive $28 million dollar restoration in October of 2007. Formerly the
Winecoff Hotel, extensive renovations to The Ellis included reconstructing its original
air terrace into the Ellis’ E Street Grille, balcony seating and preserving the
historical integrity of upper level floors, while enlarging the room size. Earlier
in 2008, the hotel also won an award from Atlanta’s Urban Design Commission for
historic preservation. An elegant boutique hotel, the Ellis features two stylish
meeting rooms, a modern board room, high-speed wireless internet and 2,200 square
feet of Event & Meeting Space.

Award 2007:
-
In late 2007, Juneau Construction Company earned the Exceptional Merit for Sustainable
Building and Design Award from the Atlanta Regional Commission. Juneau teamed with
Gwinnett County and Lord, Aeck and Sargent for the Gwinnett County Environmental
and Heritage Center project. The three entities designed and constructed one of
the most inspirational structures in the region. The 59,000 square-foot Heritage
Center uses 75 percent less potable water and 35 percent less energy than conventional
buildings of the same size. It has been awarded a gold level LEED certification
rating by the U.S. Green Building Council. The most unusual feature is the green
roof covering the entire facility. Nearly an acre in size, it is the largest sloped,
vegetative roofing system in the United States. Other innovative features include
porous pavements, bio-retention areas, rain gardens and constructed wetlands.
