Old Civil Engineering Building Earns LEED Gold Certification

The U.S. Green Building Council announced this week that Juneau Construction Company's Old Civil Engineering Building project at the Georgia Institute of Technology was awarded Gold LEED Certification.

The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Rating System was designed by the US Green Building Council to encourage and facilitate the development of more sustainable buildings.

The Old C.E. Building was a comprehensive historical renovation and rehabilitation of the 33,100sf Old Civil Engineering Building, originally constructed in 1938.

This Gold LEED certified project included the complete demolition and abatement of the interior; rehabilitation of the masonry skin of the building, and replacement of the roof systems, including installation of a new slate roof with copper gutters and downspouts.

There was a complete interior buildback for departmental offices and study spaces including extensive millwork and refurbishing existing terrazzo floors. Improvements were made to make the building ADA accessible, including installation of a new elevator. There also was an installation of all new MEP/FP systems.
