UGA Topping Out Celebration
Posted: 1/5/2010

Juneau Construction Company's principals and more than 250 sub-contractors took part in the Topping Out Celebration on the site of the University of Georgia's new East Campus Residence Hall.

The Topping Out took place on Wednesday, Dec. 30, in the New Residence Hall at East Campus. Once completed, this housing facility will be a 5-story residence hall consisting of approximately 550 beds.

"We at Juneau are extremely proud of the work you all are doing," Les Juneau, President, told the sub-contractors during a celebration meal. "We are grateful to you all for helping to build what will be one of the finest dormitories in the state."

In building construction, "topping out," is a ceremony held when the last beam is placed at the top of a building. The term may also refer to the overall completion of the building's structure, or an intermediate point, such as when the roof is dried in. A topping out ceremony, such as this one, is usually held to commemorate the event.
