What led you to the construction industry?
I started Georgia Tech with the intent to pursue a degree in Mechanical Engineering. While there, I learned of the Building Construction program from some of my fraternity brothers.
My father is a cabinet builder, so growing up I had always been around construction. While at Tech, I was the house manager for the fraternity and was always working on things
around the house. Everyone said I needed to check out the BC program. I didn’t even know the program existed. So, I took the introductory class and felt like I had really found
my niche. The rest, as they say, is history.
What is it about your job that inspires you?
One of the main reasons I got into construction was because I believed that our work affects so many people. People live, work and play in every one of our projects. When most
people walk into a building, they only see the “finished” products. When I walk into one of our projects, I see the foundations, the wall rough-ins, the RFIs and details we worked
on, the countless meetings, and the vast number of people that worked on the project to make it all happen. I know not everyone understands construction, but when you walk into
a building you can still notice quality.
Why has Juneau been such a perfect fit for you?
I like the fact that we are not afraid to take on the unusual and/or difficult projects. We are not in the “cookie cutter” market. It is always something unique (a project no
one has seen before, an extremely compressed schedule, a difficult renovation). That is why I got into this business, and this is exactly what we do at Juneau. It keeps things
challenging and exciting. In my mind, that is what you want a job to be.
Hobbies
My biggest interests are my son and my wife. We do a lot of traveling as often as we can. There are a lot of places to see, and we want to see as many as possible. I also play
softball, billiards and golf.
