Les Juneau

Les Juneau - President

Founded Juneau in 1997
Hometown: Cottonport, Louisiana

What led you to the construction industry?
Growing up in rural Louisiana provided very few options for young people to make extra money, basically there was farming, construction and little else. I tried them both and liked construction much better! Additionally, my neighbor was a general contractor who went to LSU and got a construction degree, which sounded like a plan to me, especially given the fact that he was in the air conditioned office, while I worked as a laborer during summers in the Louisiana heat.

What is it about your job that inspires you?
What inspires me about my job seems to be changing as the years go on, initially I simply could not shake the entrepreneur’s itch and focused on making it as a contractor on my own for six months and take it from there. We have, of course, managed to survive and prosper for 12 years, and inspiration these days is to see this company be recognized by our customers and peers as one of the best in class for mid-sized construction firms in the Southeast. The benefits we have enjoyed from the relationships that we have been able to develop with best in class clients, design firms, sub-contractors and other project team members has been rewarding financially and personally. Most satisfying these days though is observing the progress of our people, many of whom have been with us for many years, and knowing that we have the key pieces in place to continue a legacy for the future.

Why has Juneau been such a perfect fit for you?
Imagine a place where the owners can at times have very different strategic business opinions yet somehow always come together with great plans for more than 12 years, and be married to each other for more than 15. It has to be special, I might as well stay!
