The GCEHC is a working study of resource management. It sets an example for intelligent
use of current building technologies through selective locally harvested materials
(granite, pine wood), natural day-lighting and ventilation (walls composed of large
expanses of glass with operable panels and roof dormers to promote the natural flow
of air through the building), efficient building systems (water-to-water heat exchanger
using grey water from nearby wastewater treatment plant) and environmentally sensitive
building forms (100% green roof to manage storm-water runoff rates and general building
energy usage, 8-foot roof overhangs for shading, building sitting not to inhibit
pre-construction site hydrology).
LEED Designation: The Gwinnett Environmental & Heritage Center is a registered Gold
project in the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental
Design (LEED) system.
