The New Student Housing Project at Southern Polytechnic State University consists
of 104 units, 414 beds. It was brought online within a nine month schedule. The
new student housing consists of 3, three-story dorm buildings, a multi-purpose facility
and a housing office facility (totaling over 183,000sf). Construction is slab on
grade, wood framing with a masonry exterior and shingled roofing. There are open
breezeways with hardi-siding. Each unit consists of 4 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, a common
living area and a common kitchen. In addition to the new construction, Norton Hall
& Howell Hall student housing facilities were renovated. Norton Hall renovation
consists of a 156 bed dorm facility, including the addition of two elevators and
adding a sprinkler system and a total rework of the HVAC system. The Howell Hall
renovation included renovation of a 296-bed dorm facility, the addition of an elevator,
adding a sprinkler system and a total rework of the HVAC system.
