The University of Georgia Food Science Building Addition Phase II project consisted
of a 15,452sf ordinary hazard group “one” addition connected to the existing Food
Science Building. The new addition includes a basement, housing mechanical and electrical
equipment, two levels dedicated to laboratories, classroom space and offices and
a Penthouse to house additional mechanical equipment.
The building components consist of a steel structure supported by a cast in place
concrete substructure (foundation walls, footings) with concrete topping slabs on
metal deck. The exterior veneer is a combination of face brick, precast stone, glass
block, EIFS and a curtain wall/storefront assembly. The interior consists of 8 labs,
6 offices and classrooms, and 2 seminar rooms/auditoriums.
